Interesting reads, via MJ Tsai: On the failure of an Ariane 5 flight – I have the impression that analyses of spaceflight desasters are somewhat overrepresented on the internet. A nice little software flaw along witha few other things thrown in. I've neven even seen it, but people actually seem to program in Ada.
Hehe, let me just comment on my previous two comments: spaceflight desasters are somewhat overrepresented on the internet
as are other topics, computer related topics say. Actually I have the growing impression that the whole internet is still just a bunch of nerds. Most of the little traffic I get over here is for computer related topics. Too bad. Secondly, people actually seem to program in Ada
, and other people are in fact programming in C. Sick sad world. Next stop: Brainfuck.
Also interesting to read: some background on trademarks and someone typed up that IT departments are more concerned about their well-being than their users' – reminds me of what Dave outlined about government agencies. IT is something cutting edge and modern? Bah.
In the daily 'news' via 2lmc: increased record sales, for cheap albums and no wrist watches.
I stopped wearing a wrist watch more than a decade ago. Putting one on these days feels very strange and sweaty. Two 'philosophies' are at work here: Firstly, if you don't carry a watch you've got more time and secondly, there are enough clocks around if you need the time. That said, relying on public clocks makes me very aware of their absence. To me it's a sign for a badly designed railway station, airport or public place if clocks are absent or not easy to spot. Funnily most of my friends don't wear watches either. Sometimes in our lunch break figuring out the time turns out to be tricky.
